Dr. Kim Cliett Long is a distinguished historian and author, currently serving as the Project Administrator for the Jonathan Green Maritime Cultural Center at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. In this role, she leads initiatives that celebrate and preserve African and African American maritime art, history, and culture.
Her latest work, The First Marketplace: Africa's Role in Shaping World Trade, delves into the continent's profound influence on global commerce, offering readers a comprehensive understanding of Africa's pivotal position in economic history.
Beyond her scholarly pursuits, Dr. Long actively engages with the community, co-hosting events like the Market Matriarchs Tea alongside renowned artist Dr. Jonathan Green, honoring the legacy of Charleston's pioneering female entrepreneurs.
